What is a smile design?
It is a treatment that plan the shape, color, size, and proportion of your teeth in relation to your face, your lips and your gums, so that the result looks natural and harmonious — yours, not from a catalog.
It's not a single procedure: it's a plan that can combine porcelain or resin veneers, whitening, gum contouring, restorations, and—when necessary—preliminary orthodontics. What defines the design isn't the technique, but the planning that comes beforehand.

How is a smile design done?
Five stages. None begins without your approval of the previous one.
Assessment and diagnosis
Medical history, intraoral and extraoral photographs, panoramic radiograph, and bite analysis. This determines whether you need orthodontics, gum treatment, or periodontal treatment before any cosmetic procedures.
Intraoral scanning and digital planning
We scan your mouth in 3D—without impression material—and design your smile using software based on your own facial anatomy. We show you the projected result before you make any decisions.

We bring the design to your mouth in a temporary material, without any wear and tear. You see it, take photos, and review it at home. If something doesn't convince you, it's adjusted here, not at the end.
Preparation and processing
Once the design is approved, the minimal preparation necessary is done, and the laboratory fabricates the final porcelain restorations. During this time, you wear aesthetic temporary restorations.
Installation and controls
Final cementation, bite adjustment, and polishing. Then, scheduled checkups and a maintenance guide to ensure it lasts for years, not months.
How long does it take?
An aesthetic case without prior orthodontics is usually completed in 3 to 5 appointments over 2 to 4 weeksIf orthodontics or gum treatment is required, the process will be extended according to that treatment—we'll tell you from the first appointment, not on the fly.

How much does a smile design cost in Barranquilla?

How do I know if I need it?
Smile design isn't for everyone, and saying so saves us both time. It usually makes sense if you identify with any of these points:
- Stained or yellowed teeth that do not improve with whitening
- Worn, fractured teeth or teeth with visible restorations
- Spaces between teeth or teeth of unequal sizes
- Very visible or irregularly shaped gums when smiling
- Minor misalignments that do not warrant full orthodontics
- Old caps or crowns that no longer match in color
Is it advisable to have this procedure done?
It depends on your oral health, not your desire. Before any cosmetic treatment, cavities, gum disease, and bite problems must be resolved. No design lasts on a flawed foundation.
We also need to be realistic about expectations: we're looking for a smile that looks natural and is in proportion to your face, not a one-size-fits-all solution. If, during the consultation, we find that another alternative would be better—or cheaper—we'll let you know.
Beware of express dental tourism
"Three-day designs" often involve aggressive removal of healthy tooth structure and zero planning. What seems cheap today will cost you dearly in the long run with root canals tomorrow.
Do I need orthodontics before treatment?
Sometimes it does, and that's the best news we can give you. When teeth are severely misaligned or the bite doesn't fit together, aligning them first allows for proper alignment. wear out much less then —sometimes nothing.
It's the difference between grinding down healthy teeth to "disguise" a misaligned position, or moving them into place and then only doing the cosmetic touch-up. The result looks better, lasts longer, and preserves your natural teeth.
Today there are discreet alternatives —aesthetic orthodontics and clear aligners— and in many cases a short pre-alignment phase is sufficient, not years of treatment.

What we get asked most
Does smile design hurt?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you shouldn't feel any pain during your appointments. In the days following the preparation, you may experience mild sensitivity to cold, which can be managed with common pain relievers and will resolve on its own.
How long does a smile makeover last?
Well-cared-for porcelain veneers typically last between 10 and 15 years; resin veneers, between 5 and 7. The actual lifespan depends more on your habits than the material: daily hygiene, check-ups every six months, not biting hard objects, and using a night guard if you grind your teeth.
Will it wear down my teeth a lot?
We work with a minimal preparation approach: only the necessary thickness is removed to ensure the veneer is level, and in some cases, no preparation is required at all. If your case requires significant preparation, we will advise you during the consultation and evaluate alternatives before making a decision.
Do they look fake or exaggerated?
Only if they're designed that way. We work on the shape, shine, and translucency according to your face shape, age, and skin tone. During the lip trial, you can see the result and request a more subtle or luminous look before anything is finalized.
Can I do it if I have cavities or gum problems?
Not initially. First, oral health is stabilized: treating cavities, controlling periodontal disease, and stabilizing the bite. It's a preliminary phase, not an obstacle, and we've included it in the plan from the beginning.
Can I whiten my teeth afterwards?
Porcelain and resin teeth don't change color with bleach. That's why whitening, if done, goes beforeFirst, your natural teeth are whitened, and then the color of the pieces is chosen so that everything matches.
Do they offer financing?
Yes. We offer payment plans and work with financing options. We'll provide you with a written estimate outlining the available payment alternatives during the initial assessment.
Do you treat patients from outside Barranquilla?
Yes, we receive patients from all over the Atlantic and from other cities. When you come from out of town, we organize appointments in groups to reduce travel, and we do the initial assessment via video call if needed.
